UTPA environmental studies courses offer opportunities for service learning

In the spring semester, several of our environmental studies faculty taught courses with a service learning component. Students volunteered at the Edinburg Wetlands, taught environmental lessons in public school classrooms, designed and installed native plant gardens, and organized nature hikes, all as a part of their course work.

Incorporating service learning into our environmental studies courses affords students significant learning experiences that stay with them, and it gives students an outlet to implement some of ideas they learn about in course work.
